The risk of rnging it is that you will be killed since you aren't able to use an anti-drag sheild (unless you use bronze bolts with a reg crossbow) this is something I would not recommend. Maging it would be terrible given that I read that it has an impressive magical def.
At the said melee lvls one would require the rune scimmy (40atk needed), and full armor with adamant (30 def required) as well as an amulet made of str, and str potion could help.. Also, you need the anti drag sheild since, without it, the elvarg is capable of causing up to 500 DMG.

Also, you should have an inventory of lobsters and swordfish. Swordfish is much better in my opinion, but I killed Elvarg between 40-50 combat, using just 3-5 lobbies.
