Traditionally Hindu tepmples were located either on inclines or forested acres or river banks. In ancient times, the wats or temples were constructed in such locations removed from human habitations for providing a calm, peaceful and pleasant environment and also for ensuring an in depth bond between man and nature. Hindu wats or temples are generally associated with trees and shrubs such as Ficus benghalensis, Ficus Religiosa Farmington Hills landscaper, Aegle marmelos, Azardirachta indica, Forehead tree, Bauhinia spp, etc, Herbs such as Vinca rosea, Nerium spp etc. The enormous trees and shrubs like ficus spp and some other trees and shrubs are closely associated with wats or temples since forever. The mixed perfume, the flowers and the leaf kitten on the floor provides a pleasant experience to a pilgrim or tourist.

But contemperoray backyard gardeners and landscapists fail to appreciate this aspect while attempting gardening at these places, which have become tourist and mass pilgrimage centers in our contemporary world. Most contemporary backyard gardeners design symmetric gardening with huge your lawn and tiled floor surrounding the tree bases. The representation of trees and shrubs is very poor in comparison to the your lawn and plants.

Assymmetry should be the rule while designing landscaping near these wats or temples. The asymmetric garden should have abundant representation of Tree species such as Ficus, Neem, Wood apple, Alexandrian laurel, Jack Fruit, Mango atc spread in a random manner.

The most gloomy area of modern wats or temples -- they don't have space for gardening at all, leaving such, wherever there is enough space for gardening, care should be taken not to tile or concrete the entire floor coming in contact with the tree bases! scientifically too the tree base should have enough soil surrounding it either to water or manure and for aeration. Apart from these the soil surrounding or that beneath a tree has its microclimate that supports particular flora and fauna. Let only the footpath be tiled while keeping a floor untiled to the maximum extent possible.

Small patches of herbs like Ocimum, Vinca, Jasmine can be grown for the daily usage of pilgrims needs for praying to the god. Another beautiful attraction to the forehead garden can be unnaturally created pool for growing nelumbium spp which is the flower associated with gods.

Lawn your lawn be selected in a way that the your lawn species be tolerant to tree shade, avoiding designing open your lawn with few plants.. try to intersperse the lawn with trees and shrubs randomly rooted in between.

The asymmetric style and a large representation of trees and shrubs is ecologically significant as these support and house numerous birds and other creatures. Birds like parrots, cuckoos, woodpecker and occasional monkeys, squirrels all add to a natural feeling and oneness with nature.

Ravikumar Uppaluri lives in Kaikalur (Kaikaluru), Krishna Region of Andhra Pradesh State in The indian subcontinent. The famous Kolleru bird sancturay, a fresh water lake that attracts birds from as far as siberia, is situated near Kaikalur. Having spent the childhhod close to such nature rich areas, a deep interest and love for nature were inculcated from child hood. Having done pga masters in garden science, This emotional bonding took a scientific and logical enquiry making scientifically and emotionally in synchronize with the explanation for nature.
