VC permeates MT 2K21 the MyTeam way again, also. This mode functions as a fantasy-esque build-your-own-team endeavor where you make card packs to unlock players one of a roster which spans numerous NBA eras. MyTeam can be captivating for long-time basketball lovers such as myself who have Allen Iverson teamed up with Anthony Davis and can take this fantasy team roster into single-player or multiplayer matches. However, the loot-box character of earning card packs--which can be obtained by slowly earning MT points through new avenues such as challenges, seasonal events, and turning into useless cards, or by buying them together with VC--makes the dependence on VC unsurprisingly egregious.

MyGM, which places you in the shoes of a team's General Manager, is a style worth mentioning. You call the shots for everything out of roster moves, trades, ticket prices, marketing, and personnel decisions in hopes of building a successful franchise. It is a sports management simulation fantasy, but affects here are only skin deep. You will undergo awkwardly animated and written dialogue scenarios to handle relationships in your organization--such as how I chatted to RJ Barrett about how he had to play clarinet so as to boost his morale stats, or became the yes-man of head coach Tom Thibodeau to keep him happy. MyGM's menus are also flooded in a means which makes it difficult to browse and get a grasp of how to spend your limited resources and time throughout the season. I have really enjoyed this manner in the past with its RPG-like sensibilities, but it's one that requires a serious revamp.

I am able to run down every other mode of drama or attribute in NBA 2K21, but I would really only be going through the laundry list of items we've seen in years past--but I do need to point to the continued inclusion of the WNBA. It's a fantastic attribute for current fans and those who want to familiarize themselves with WNBA teams and players. Where this falls short is the WNBA is relegated to only season play, and the addition of female participant creation is just featured at the Cheap MT 2K21 upcoming next-gen variations of the game.
