Everything One Should Know About Monoclonal Antibody Therapy

The past few months have been very disconnected for people. Many have had lost their beloved due to chronic disease whilst others suffer a lot of painful and vexing situations. Due to no specific treatment for COVID-19, the world has faced a lot of trauma. But, today, we are prepared and have an antidote to fight against the disease. However, FDA has granted Emergency Use Authorization to serve monoclonal antibody therapy as an effective treatment for COVID-19.

Earlier hospitals don’t have any remedy for those who are at higher risk of infection. But with monoclonal Antibody Therapy, physicians now have a way to treat or reduce the severe symptoms from developing. This process will prevent confirmed exposure to the virus- household contact of people who recently tested positive. The primary reason for introducing this was to minimize the hospitalization risk, lower the viral loads, and reduce symptoms severity.

This therapy makes antibodies that are similar to the ones your body would naturally build. By targeting the spike protein, these specific antibodies interfere with the virus’s ability to attach and gain entry into human cells. However, the COVID-19 vaccination is also important, and this is not an alternative or replacement for vaccination. We are still required to build a vaccination chain to break the virus transmission.

In addition, there is the eligibility to receive antibody therapy. One should be older than 12 years and at higher risk of infection or tested positive. It is necessary for everyone to understand that the sooner, the better- if you’re not feeling that bad yet, having a dose will keep you away from the risk. This therapy is given through intravenous infusion. This infusion is given in some of the outpatient infusion centers. And require about an hour to administer following the monitoring and observation for about an hour.

If you or your close one have the symptoms and tested positive, do consult your nearby center for monoclonal Antibody Therapy. Make sure not everyone is allowed to sever this service; some affiliated centers can provide this service. So, once you confirm, schedule an appointment and take all the necessary things with you like a mask, sanitizer, and so forth. Do eat some before an hour of therapy and get prepared to sit for a few duration to get monitored by the team. If still there is any confusion, don’t hesitate to ask a question to the doctor.
