It is a logical decision by EA. Even if they're just after political points. The NFL and Madden have a sizable African American fandom, combined with being basically a US exclusive merchandise with minimal international appeal. Not the best time to fall advice when one of Madden 21 coins your largest demographics & just market is to literal fire. From an advertising/marketing point, theyve done this numerous times (smaller scale) to get Battlefront 2. The CM said theyre seeking to create the most spalsh as you can. If folks are outside protesting = less viewers. And more importantly, lower online engagement. On most social websites it is not possible to talk about anything but the protests right now. They need people talking about the reveal but that would be drowned out by the much larger news at the moment.
Yeah, but they could have just as easily said"because of increasing tensions" or even postponed without saying anything. Consumers see EA for some of the dumb shit they do using games they develop and release, but they do not see what they do for causes such as equality and workplace diversity (they've ever been awarded in multiple years). They're really super innovative internally and must be praised for that. It is simple to be cynical about this sort of thing, but they may just have easily avoided making an announcement. Yo, thanks so much for sharing this information. That's awesome on EA's part. No matter how people feel about their games we should praise them for their progressive actions. I'm surprised that I am just NOW hearing about this. I truly want the gambling community will step up and start caring far more about stuff like this.
Just as it has the EA name attached to it. Same could happen if it had been Epic or Activision. If CDPR, Valve or some other beloved company did exactly the same, comments would be completely different. Edit: Sony did exactly the exact same and the general reception on these comments are largely positive. Stay fresh, Reddit. I really don't think so. If their main customer base is African American is doesn't make sense to advertise to them right now. As they will not be spending at this time, as games is not on there minds right now. Not about honor imo. More or less they not going to the stores immediately to make purchases. Maybe this really is the cynical part of me. A nice gesture, but are not these the same people who dared Colin Kaepernick's name out of a song in a few of the past Madden games?
I will preface this by stating I do not think that it's a bad thing for them to bring awareness to the issue. It's important that it can't just be dismissed by looking away from it. That said, I really do hold a certain amount of distrust towards multi-billion buck multinational corporations paying lip service to important social issues. Of course, as a philosophical business they're under no duty to do so, and it rings hollow when they attempt to stand in solidarity with the cheap Madden nfl 21 coins common people. Currently there are businesses out there that do things and this is the time to emphasize those efforts; to demonstrate they're more than simply words.
